Dirk Maurer is of counsel to MNB Meridian Law, Ltd., in the firm’s Alexandria, Virginia office. Prior to joining the firm, Dirk served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD), Defense Continuity and Mission Assurance from 2016 to 2020, where he provided policy guidance to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy for matters related to continuity of government, mission assurance, counterterrorism, emergency management, and critical infrastructure protection.
Dirk was previously appointed by The White House to serve as the DASD, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction, responsible for policy guidance for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear protection, weapons of mass destruction countermeasures, and counterproliferation and non-proliferation. He was also appointed as DASD, Crisis Management and Defense Support of Civil Authorities, responsible for DoD continuity, crisis management, critical infrastructure protection, domestic anti-terrorism/force protection, cyber security, and defense support of civil authorities programs.
Dirk also served on the professional staff for the Senate Armed Services and Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committees and the House Committee on Homeland Security. In addition, he provided staff support to Senators Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-TX), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Jim Bunning (R-KY).
After receiving his commission as a Marine Corps Second Lieutenant, Dirk or Mr. Maurer served on active duty for five years and deployed in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm. For the remainder of his Marine Corps career, Mr. Maurer served in the Marine Corps Reserve, having deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Dirk retired after twenty years of faithful service.
